Potato Sticks is a name we all are well aware of; the signature childhood snack, loved by the children all across Pakistan. I am not even a child and I still can’t resist them! But, there might be a confusion now.
Apparently, I came across a picture of same snacks with two different labels. Going by the correlative name of Potato Sticks, there are noticeably two different products in the market with same appearance and taste, but different brainchild behind it. This is how there stems a confusion between different brands that are known, followed, and loved by many.
There are Potato Sticks by “Kolson”, and then there are the other Potato Sticks by “Super Crisp”. Both of the companies have a strong foothold and market following.
The disarray that has been brought by this same manufacturing confusion is that “Is it okay to copy a name and an idea behind the product that has a decent patronage and has been in the market for long?” Or “Is it ethical to copy a name and conception without the prior permission of the concerned?”
To those who are unaware, Kolson’s snacks are being produced since a very long time, whereas, Super Crisp’s concept is relatively new and launched without the affiliation or proper copyrights. And if there are any; we, as a public, are ignorant.
There are big brands (like Kolson and Super Crisp), there are small brands, and then there are those brands which look up to the ‘big brands’ for a follow-up. Such a huge confusion created by a popular brand should be rectified or a proper explanation should be given in order to clear-the-air stemming out of the situation. Else, the other companies would start following the same track; which can lead to a greater brand disruption in Pakistan.
