Nestlé opens pet food factory in Brazil, moves USA headquarters to Virginia

Nestlé has opened a pet food factory in Brazil that will provide new healthy options for pets and create jobs, while minimizing impact on the environment. The new Purina site in Ribeirão Preto will make wet food for cats and dogs from the Friskies, Cat Chow, Pro Plan, and Dog Chow ranges. It uses exclusive technology to produce more natural and nutritious meals, by preserving the original meat characteristics.

Nestlé’s CHF 85 million (approximately $85.3 million) investment will generate around 80 new direct jobs, 400 indirect jobs, and meet expected rising demand for pet food in Brazil and the region. The facility also minimizes impact in line with Nestlé’s commitment to environmental sustainability. It will send zero solid waste to landfills, uses sunlight and LED lamps, and a thermal energy recovery system.

In other news, Nestlé USA, a subsidiary of Nestlé S.A., has announced that it will transition its corporate headquarters to Rosslyn, Va., from Glendale, Calif., starting later this year. The move marks an important milestone in the company’s history and signals Nestlé’s commitment to future investment and growth in the United States. The company expects to bring approximately 750 jobs to the Washington, D.C. area with this transition.

Currently, 75% of Nestlé USA’s factories and 85% of its top customers are located in the eastern half of the United States. In addition, 80% of the company’s products are sold east of the Mississippi River. With a majority of key regulatory groups and non-government organizations pertinent to the business located in or near the Washington, D.C. area, the move will further facilitate important conversations about bringing the best foods and beverages to U.S. consumers. The move will commence later this year, with completion expected by the end of 2018.
