These are heady days for lovers of Cadbury's chocolate.

While reeling from Freddo price rise - the firm's popular chocolate frog is going up from 25p to 30p - significantly more welcome news arrived this week with the announcement that two new varieties of Cadbury chocolate bar will be hitting out shelves imminently.

Joining the Cadbury's range this month will be Peanut Butter Oreo Dairy Milk, and Mint Oreo Dairy Milk.

"We are delighted to add these two sumptuous new flavours to the classic Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo, giving chocolate lovers even more ways to enjoy their favourite treat," said Joanna Dias, Brand Manager at Mondeléz International, which owns Cadbury.

"Tasty and irresistible, the peanut butter variant will appeal to those who love the current peanut butter trend, while the delicious mint flavour will no doubt delight those who love a classic combination."

“In testing, 89 per cent of consumers said they were likely to purchase one of the three Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo flavours – mint, peanut butter or standard Oreo – so we believe the range will appeal to new shoppers and occasions to unlock incremental chocolate sales.”

The Cadbury/Oreo combination has been proving extremely popular with consumers; earlier this year major excitement greeted the announcement that the firm would be introducing Oreo Eggs.

A spokesperson for Cadbury told Metro: "We are always innovating our product ranges and there are lots of exciting things to come from the Cadbury brand this year and beyond.

"As part of our Easter range this year we have launched new Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg ‘n’ Spoon Oreo, which will be available alongside our existing Oreo Easter products including the Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo Shell Egg and the Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo Easter Egg Sharing Bag."
