On a weekend known for indulging chocolate hankerings, federal food inspectors have recalled a brand of chocolate bars because they contain milk not declared on the labels.

The recall applies to Ross Chocolates' No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate bars, which are manufactured in B.C. and have been sold in the province as well as Manitoba, Ontario and possibly elsewhere in the country.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recall just prior to Easter, on March 25.

Food inspectors are warning consumers who are allergic to milk to stay away from the product.

"If you have an allergy to milk, do not consume the recalled product as it may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction," the agency said in a written release.

The agency said the recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased.

The recall was sparked by a CFIA inspection and they are conducting a food inspection investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

Currently, no illnesses have been reported.

Ross Chocolates is based in Scotch Creek, B.C., northeast of Kamloops.

On its website, the company said it ships millions of its no-sugar chocolate bars worldwide to China, Dubai, Japan and Sweden.
